As usual this year 2014 too the Vesak festival was celebrated in the Dehiwala area. Dehiwala-Galkissa Municipal Council Mayor Hon. Danasiri Amaratunga was the chief organizer of this event along with his men. The 5 days event was participated by millions of people.

There were Kadala Dansal, Sav Dansal, Ice cream Dansal and Rice and Curry dansals stretched from the Municipal councial premisses up to Jayasinghe grounds. (Nearly 1.5 KM ) where both sides were with decorated Vesak Lanterns, 3 Large Thorana, 3 drama stages, 2 Devotional Song stages, 3 Muppet show stages along with vendors selling every things from food to soft drinks on the Zoo road.
The main attraction was of the Buddha statue erected at the height of more than 60 feet where people climbed to worship the Lord Buddha through the steps. People had to stay in Que for nearly 10 minutes to reach the footstep.
Children and the elders are the ones who enjoyed this event in a peaceful manner. All around the entries are blocked on this road by the Dehiwala Police officers and the people walked all along the road freely although many people found it to difficult to move freely as it was a big gathering of people.
